On the 9th February, a team of both and staff and pupils proudly took on the Portland Half Marathon and 10k event in support of the DOCS Foundation, an organisation dedicated to helping orphans in Nepal.

An early morning wake up, followed by a long drive brought us down to Portland, Dorset. We were very lucky with the weather, the sun shone and the race took us through the stunning coastal scenery of Portland, with its challenging hills and breathtaking views, providing both inspiration and motivation along the way.
This incredible effort was not just a test of our endurance, but also a demonstration of our commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need. Special mention must go to Sunny J who placed 11th overall, alongside Matilda G and Harriet V who both came 2nd and 3rd respectively out of all the women partaking. A great achievement and testament to all their hard work.
We are very proud to share that our participation in the event helped raise significant funds for the DOCS Foundation. So far, we have raised just shy of £2500 and the JustGiving page will be open for a few more weeks. These funds will go directly towards providing essential resources, education, and support for orphaned children in Nepal, helping to create better opportunities for their future.
To finish, a massive thank you must go to Mr Stainton who organised the event, and all the staff members who came to partake and contribute (Mrs Stainton, Mrs Griffiths and Mrs Cole), a thank you to all the pupils who dedicated hours of their time to prepare and participate in the event (Sunny J, Matilda G, Harriet V, Lucy D, Anna I, Jeevan M, Tom H, George G, Liv B, Fred W, Benji P, Hayden H, Lani M, Annabel R and Sophie W). Finally a huge thank you to all the parents who made the journey down to Portland to watch and support, your encouragement and positivity helped all of us around the course and it was greatly appreciated!

“It was a superb day out and I couldn’t be prouder of those that took part - an incredible achievement. Any Half Marathon is hard, but Portland Coastal Half Marathon is an extreme challenge. However, to have the incentive of raising money for The DOCS Foundation made the challenge much easier. It gave the team the mental focus and determination to succeed. Well done, everyone!” - Mr Stainton
“Serious terrain, not for the weaker knees. Elevation rises caused for limited 02 in the air, naturally I adapted.” - Tom H
“A fabulous team effort - all supporting each other.” - Mrs Griffiths
“Light work, no reaction" - Sunny J
“I can’t hear you Portland” - Benjamin P
“So much fun” - Harriet V and Lucy D
“I thoroughly enjoyed running the Portland Half, there were some tough hills, incredible scenery and it was all for a great cause. Definitely a race to remember!” - Matilda G
“It was a great atmosphere throughout, the fun chat of the boys really helped keep me going on the tougher stretches of the route. All for an incredible charity - lovely to see so many from King's taking part.” - Mrs Stainton
