As ever, the Easter Term has flown by in a flurry of activity, challenge, and achievement. It may be one of the shortest terms of the year, but it has certainly not lacked momentum. Across the School, many pupils have once again risen to academic demands with characteristic determination and enthusiasm. It has been pleasing to see strong trial examination performances from many pupils, as well as some outstanding effort grades. With the main GCSE, BTEC, and A Level examinations just weeks away, it was brilliant to finish the term with outstanding assessment grades for many pupils.
One of the term’s highlights was the final of the Inter-House Debating Competition. This was the highest-quality debate I have seen during my time at King’s, showcasing exceptional research, public speaking, and debating skills. With many 3rd to 5th Form pupils involved in House debating teams, the future of debating at King’s looks very bright indeed.
The EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) presentations by L6th Form pupils once again demonstrated the independence and academic curiosity we nurture at King’s. Topics ranged from the rise and fall of the Vikings, the impact of Roman sport on modern life, to the establishment of trade routes across the British Empire. Supervisors praised both the depth of research and the outstanding presentation style delivered by many pupils.
Throughout the term, there have been a number of outstanding enrichment opportunities for pupils. Highlights included the unforgettable Economics trip to London, visiting Rothschild & Co and Barclays Investment Bank, as well as Art trips to Bristol and London, and a DT trip to the Mini Factory, to name just a few. It is wonderful to see pupils making the most of these experiences and using them to enrich and extend their learning.
Performing Arts continues to thrive at King’s, and I have enjoyed many excellent performances throughout the term. These have included the fantastic Spring Concert, Community Concert, House plays from Blackford and New House, and a series of impressive GCSE drama performances. A huge amount of time and effort goes into preparing for these events, and it is always a pleasure to see pupils perform with such skill and passion.
Across academic departments, staff continue to challenge pupils to think independently, communicate effectively, and push the boundaries of their learning. Whether in the classroom, in competitions, or through enrichment events, the standard of academic work remains high. I have particularly enjoyed seeing pupils demonstrate these skills through the Academic Forum and the various tasks that they have tackled.
As we head into the Easter break, our public exam pupils will be focusing their attention on the weeks ahead. Structured revision plans, independent study, and continued support from staff will be key as they prepare for their GCSE, BTEC, and A Level examinations. With some excellent modular results and strong coursework submitted at the end of term, many pupils have laid solid foundations for success in the summer.
I wish all pupils a well-earned rest, a productive Easter holiday, and the very best of luck as they move towards the final stages of the academic year.
