A successful Christmas term of sport at King's Bruton...
It has been an incredibly busy, enjoyable and successful term of sport, both from a participation point, as well as a performance point of view. It has been wonderful for us be able to field eight rugby and hockey teams, which is particularly pleasing at the senior end, where pupils have a variety of options to choose from. A big well done must also go to both the 1st XV Rugby and 1st XI Hockey teams who had excellent seasons, with the 1st XI remaining unbeaten in their Saturday fixtures. There was also cup success for the U15A Rugby team who are through to the last 16 of the National Vase Competition, whilst the U16A Hockey team are through to the Quarter Finals of the National Tier 2 competition, with both of these matches to be played early next term. Congratulations also to the U15A Hockey and U16A Rugby sides who were named ‘Teams of the Term’ at Final Assembly. It has also been wonderful to see our Badminton and Football Teams have regular fixtures, whilst I was also delighted to see 29 of our runners qualify from the Yeovil Area Schools’ Cross-Country Championships. A further highlight was also seeing all four of our Indoor Hockey Teams qualify for the West Regional Finals, with only one other school in the whole of the south west to also achieve this feat. Outside of school, it is brilliant to see such a large number of pupils playing sport at a representative level, with pupils excelling for the Bath DPP and PDG programmes as well as the Team Bath Buccaneers Talent Academy.
As always, the above would not be possible without the continued support of the staff, pupils and parents alike. Sport continues to go from strength to strength and I am most grateful to everyone involved for making this happen. I would also like to take this opportunity to publicly thank both Paul Charlton and Ben Hawley for everything they have contributed to King’s Bruton Sport in their 26 and 6 years respectively, as they leave King’s. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
