An historic moment for King's Bruton as our girls' football team played their first ever match...
On Thursday 26th January our Senior Girl’s 1st Team Football Squad embarked on an historic occasion as we travelled to Sherborne Girls School for King's first ever Senior Girls football fixture. This match has been on the cards, as over the past two seasons as our U6th Form girls have worked incredibly hard to build their skills and grow the sport at King’s.
This was an entertaining match from start to finish. Fortunately, the pitches had thawed out with the rising temperatures, and our girls made an electric start. The first half was a fantastic display of direct football with great link up play, with our Forwards breaking through Sherborne’s defensive line. Imke was unbeatable at times, displaying her all round confidence with the ball at her feet. Her darting runs, adept turns and clinical finishing were sensational, as she netted 6 goals in the first half in two 4 minute spells. There were several outstanding performances with Ruby competing well in midfield as she provided the bridge between our defensive line and attacking play. Whilst Captain Phoebe lead by example, being the driving force in midfield, she displayed great communication skills and scored our fifth goal with her well struck drive deflecting past their keeper. The team held their positioning well throughout and were galvanised by the strong sense of team spirit which ran through the core of the team. Player of the match - Imke.
Congratulations to all the players involved, and we are very much looking forward to our return fixture against Sherborne.

"We had an impressive first match against Sherborne Girls on Thursday. Our hard work in training paid off, and it was great to see everyone working together as a team. The result was 7-1 with 6 of the goals being scored by Imke. What a great result for our first match." Phoebe (Capt.)
