A brilliant day of tennis with the Parent Pupil Championships...

This summer, saw King's Bruton run its first Parent and Pupil Tournament. With over 26 pairs being entered, it was lining up to be a competitive and memorable event. It was clear from the first round that the standard of tennis was going to be high!

In the opening round, the number one seeds, Ollie and Nick, had a tough first round match against the talented pairing of Hugo and Nick. With some big serving and consistent hitting in heavy winds, Hugo and Nick took the match 4-2. The number two seeds Archie and Chris were also tested by the experienced pairing of Mr Cole and Juan. After being 5-2 down in the match tie break, and looking as though they were heading for an early exit, Archie managed to find some first serves at pivotal moments to win the match 7-5 in the tie break.

Lilah and Ben took on Luli and Steven on centre court in a fantastic first round encounter. Nothing could separate the two pairings and a match tie break was needed to declare the winner. With some unforced errors at crucial moments from Lilah and Ben, they lost 7-4 on the tie break with only minor mistake separating the two. Sophie, and her brother Toby, had a very fast start to the Tournament. After breezing through the first few rounds, they then lost to the eventual runners up Hugo and Nick, in a match which was played in good spirit. In the consolation final, Sophie and Caroline took on Ollie and Nick. With some steady rallying and deep cross court exchanges, it was a match played at a very high level. Unfortunately, Sophie and Caroline came out as runners up. Well done to Ollie and Nick for winning the consolation plate.

The main draw final saw Hugo and Nick taking on the number two seeds Archie and Chris. It was a match played with high intensity from the first game. With many games going to deuce it was anyone’s game! At 4-2 up, Archie once again managed to find his first serve, setting up his partner Chris for a comfortable volley. With Hugo serving, unfortunately, he couldn’t find his first serve frequently enough, which encouraged Archie and Chris to be more proactive. They took the final 6-3.

It was a Tournament with a unique feeling to it. With lots of smiles from all players it was an event that brought joy to everyone who was involved. Thanks to everyone who entered, and I look forward to seeing you all next summer.
