Leo, Evelyn & Freya spoke in Assembly about the Lunar New Year Festivals in China & Vietnam...
This year, our Asian pupils will be on half-term for their Lunar New Year festival, but Leo, U6th, Evelyn L6th and Freya 4th Form, delivered a colourful and informative assembly on Monday for the whole school. Niko kindly supported them for a Q and A which accompanied Evelyn’s presentation about the similarities and differences between the Chinese and Vietnamese traditions and celebrations at this time of year.
The pupils took command of the stage, and each in turn recounted how the New Year is celebrated back home with feasting, dragon dances, red envelopes and family get togethers. The Memorial Hall stage was decorated with red lanterns and Freya was in charge of the little dragon puppet. It was amazing to see our Asian pupils speaking with such clarity and confidence in public.
We wish all our Asian pupils and their families Gong xi fa cai ( in Chinese ) and Cung hỉ phát tài ( in Vietnamese ) and thank Leo, Evelyn, Freya and Niko for their enjoyable assembly.

On a rain sodden Thursday evening, 10 of our international pupils and their guests made the short trip to Bristol to partake of the culinary delights of the VietKitchen. Frank had done hours of research and evaluation to choose a suitable restaurant; well done to him for his organisational skills and excellent choice! The evening was spent tasting a wide range of delicious and, for some, unusual dishes in a delightfully friendly atmosphere. In fact, the food was so scrumptious several also purchased a takeaway on their way out. Gong xi fa cai!
