A cheque for Ocean Youth Trust was presented to Harry...

Harry - U6th Form Lyon House (and Ocean Youth Trust volunteer)

Over the Christmas term, we raised £3,685.79 for Ocean Youth Trust. It is absolutely brilliant and we will be able to put this money towards bursaries and equipment. I am thrilled that King’s Bruton was able to support our charity so generously.

Harry launched the charity initiative in September 2023, read more from Harry here.

Ian Wilmshurst - Headmaster

I am delighted that Ocean Youth Trust was our school charity last term, and I am sure that Harry and the other volunteers will put our donations to very good use. Ocean Youth Trust is such a worthwhile charity that offers unique, and life-enhancing maritime experiences and opportunities for so many young people.

Caroline White - Chief Operating Officer of Ocean Youth Trust South

I am so impressed by this incredible fundraising effort - the School community at King’s Bruton has evidently put a huge amount of time and enthusiasm into supporting us, and we loved reading about all the different activities on social media as they happened. This money will help to keep our voyages open to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, so that young carers, children in care, people with physical and learning difficulties or facing mental health challenges, and others with a broad range of personal and family problems can experience the excitement of a voyage on board our wonderful sailing vessel Prolific. Young people sail with us as active crew members, even if they have no previous sailing experience, and alongside learning to sail, we help them to develop skills that matter in everyday life: confidence, communication, leadership, resilience, team working and more.

OYT South’s voyages are not only for disadvantaged young people - we have summer holiday adventure voyages open to anyone aged 11-25, and we would love to see some King’s Bruton students on board this summer. There are voyages based out of Devon, Dorset and Hampshire, as well as a special voyages to Guernsey and a race back, for those who like the idea of sailing across the English Channel. More details here https://www.oytsouth.org/availability/ - please do come and get a taste of the fantastic opportunities that your fundraising efforts have opened up for young people who would never otherwise have been able to take part: some of them will never have gone away on holiday before. We really can’t thank you enough!

Emily Simper - Deputy Head Pastoral

I am so pleased with the fantastic sum of money raised by King’s pupils, staff and parents. There have been fantastic House events, such as the Blackford film evening, Wellesley Hockey Tournament and Priory Candy Canes, whilst other events such as the International Pupils' Cake Sale, the Prefects Car Wash and the Whole School Mufti Day were very well supported. The Friends' Raffle for Hampers raised a substantial sum contributing significantly towards the final total. Ocean Youth Trust is a very valuable charity and I hope that many will profit from this amount of money.
