Week 7 Sport Roundup...
The 2 junior athletics teams travelled to Exeter arena to compete in the Regional B round of the English Schools Cup. There are 8 teams in each age group and the boys' team did exceptionally well, finishing a very close 2nd only missing out by 15 points. Notable performances were Robert B jumping a personal best in the high jump of 165cm, and top scoring for the team. Henry, Benji, Ben L, and Charlie all scored over 30 points for both events! New faces of Sid and Ronnie also scored well, with Harry G and L both trying new events and doing very well. A fantastic result for a great team.
The results were as follows for the weekend fixtures:
1st Team won by 5 wickets - Jay 64 and Ben 3 for 13 from 3 overs
2nd Team won by 76 runs
U15A lost 2 wickets - Felix 66
U15B won by 7 wickets - Reuben 4 for 19 from 4 overs and Kylo 4 for 7 from 4 overs
U14A lost by 6 wickets - Joel 44
U14B lost by 22 runs
1st Team won 7-2
2nd Team won 8-1
A strong performance on the grass courts from the 1st and 2nd Teams. Archie and Ollie continue to impress each week. Jack and Alex played some of their best tennis of the season so far! They beat the consistent 2nd paring of Monkton 7-5 in a match that was full of twists. This was the first or second time playing on grass for some of the pupils. In wet conditions the grass was even harder to get used too! Therefore, a huge well done for both teams adapting well in tricky conditions.
U15A won 5-4
U15B lost 9-0
U15C lost 9-0
Another fantastic win for the U15A team against a very talented Bryanston squad. In the deciding game at 4-4, it was up to Harriet and Lilah to win. After going 3-0 down in games with many mistakes they managed to find another gear, and with some deep baseline exchanges and aggressive volleying, they eventually beat the 1st pair of Bryanston 6-3.
In the U15B’s Emily and Sami had some very close battles. They lost 6-5 in 2/3 matches. Unfortunately, after leading 5-3 in one game they made some unforced errors at critical moments which cost them the set. A massive well done to both Emily and Sami for showing a great mindset.
1st Team lost 6-3
2nd Team won 5-4
3rd Team lost 5-4
It was also a very close match across all teams in the seniors. The 2nd Team won on a deciding match and the 3rd Team just missed out on a win and lost 5-4. Anouska and Luli displayed some great serving and made very few unforced errors. They won 6-4, 6-5, and 6-1.
In the 1st Team India and Jemima had a memorable win against the confident 1st pairing of Bryanston. They battled hard, showed great determination, and fought for every point. As a result of this they won 7-5 in one of the biggest wins of the season so far for them.
1st team lost 5-4
2nd Team won 7-2
Our 1st pair were able to respond to going 15-40 down in the opening game. They went on to win the match 6-1.
An excellent performance from Louis and Oscar all round. Excellent tactics used with both players serving and volleying well with some clinical points won in quick succession.
Juan and JJ also had a productive day of tennis. They won all three matches 6-3,6-4,6-0 with some good footwork and communication between the two.
