Sport Roundup - Week 4...

Swimming

The King’s girls competed in a Swimming Gala against Godolphin Girls School last Thursday. With 22 races in less than one hour, the competition was always going to be tough, but the wins and the cheering were second to none! The final score was 61-67 to Godolphin with Emily as Swimmer of the Gala with straight wins in all her races. The next gala is against Queen’s Taunton on Thursday with the boys racing too.

Equestrian

The equestrian team travelled to Royal Windsor Horse Show on Saturday, having qualified for the Inter-Schools rally, which was held in the grounds surrounding Windsor Castle. This is a very prestigious event, with only 20 teams from the entire country qualifying for a place. We were drawn last to go out and had a high standard to win. Lilah had an unfortunate stop, having ridden beautifully around the rest of the course for 4 faults, Anouska flew round in an exceptionally quick time, Freya had 4 faults in her first experience of this show, and Anna did a lovely clear round. Overall, they were the fastest team on 4 faults finishing a very impressive 5th. Anouska was also the top combination of the day, with the fastest clear round.

Athletics

The athletes went to Taunton for a friendly event. There were some very impressive performances, but notably the 8x100m relay, which consisted of pupils from the 3rd to U6th Forms who won by a clear 50m! Freddie and Ashtyn did a 2x300m in a very good time against all ages. James and Florence ran a combined 3 minute time trial and won, and Ben, who did a "have a go at pole vault" and was flying over a very high bar after 1 hour, and advised to compete at counties! Well done to everyone, and good luck to all those going to the English Schools Cup on Wednesday.

Cricket vs Blundells

1st team won by 6 wickets - Daniel 41 not out, Archie bowling figures of 6 overs, 3 wickets for 17 runs

2nd team lost by 90 runs

U15A lost 4 wickets - Ben 61

U15B lost by 43 runs

U14A lost by 7 wickets

All teams played well against a very strong cricket team from Blundell’s.

Tennis

Senior Boys vs Clayesmore:

1st team lost 5-4

2nd team won 6-3.

Yet another close match for the boys' 1st team. They lost 5-4 in a deciding rubber after some very close sets.

In the 2nd team, the pair of the match went to Juan and Max. They played some great tennis and beat the Clayesmore 1st pair 6-5 in a deciding game.

Junior Girls vs Prior Park:

All three teams lost.

A tough match for the juniors this weekend. Unfortunately, the U15A’s couldn’t continue their win streak. They fought hard and after some close matches they lost 7-2. The pair of the match must go to Clara and Sophie. In hot and humid conditions, they managed to beat the 2nd pair 6-5 in their final match.

Senior Girls vs Prior Park:

1st team lost

2nd team drew

The senior girls were also taking on Prior Park. In the 1st team, all 3 King's pairings battled hard. However, with some strong serving and deep groundstrokes from the opposition they lost all 3 sets.

The pair of the 2nds match goes to Phoebe and Mimi. They beat the 2nd and 3rd pair 6-1 and 6-3 and had a close game against the 1st pair, losing 6-3 with a few unforced errors at critical moments.

The Team of the Week goes to the Girls' Swimming Team.
