On Thursday 8th October, the Sixth Form artists made their way to Oxford to gain inspiration for their current work.
The first stop was the internationally acclaimed Ashmolean Museum which has an abundance of beautiful artifacts and art work on show. Pupils were able to link the work with their personal themes which provides the necessary evidence required for the mark scheme. There is such a diverse range of art that there is something for everyone. Although pupils had over two hours at the museum, it didn’t seem long enough.
On the top floor we bought tickets to the Young Rembrandt Exhibition which was a first of its kind. It highlighted the work which gave him his meteoric rise to stardom. There was plenty of etching and painting with a lot of context to the way he worked, his peers and his home town of Leiden. It was small and beautiful and very much worth a visit.
Our last stop was Modern Art Oxford which contrasted dynamically with the Ashmolean. The spacious main room installation from South American artist Mariana Castillo Deball, provided a bold starting point to the exhibition with its suspended ceramics and languid form. The gallery has housed numerous exhibitions of celebrated contemporary artists and continues to pioneer the arts. The pupils got a lot from the visit which they will be able to take forward into their practical work.
