On Monday evening, the U16 boys travelled to Wellington School to contest the Somerset Indoor Hockey Championship.

Placed in a pool alongside Millfield and Wellington, the boys knew they would have to be at their best in order to progress for the pool stages. The opening match with Wellington ended in a 1-1 draw, with King’s dominating the match without making their chances count. However, they produced their finest performance as they defeated Millfield 1-0 in the second game, securing top position in the group. This set up a semi-final with King’s Taunton and despite the boys not being at their best in the first half, they produced an excellent second half performance to secure a 3-2 victory, which included Captain Aled scoring the winner with 3 seconds to go. This victory meant the boys qualified for the West of England Finals on Sunday and set up a rematch with Millfield in the final.

A closely fought match ended 0-0 with Millfield winning 2-1 on penalty strokes. This is a fantastic achievement from this squad and we wish them the best of luck at the Regionals.
