Week 6 Sports Roundup...
On Saturday 35 King's Bruton athletes represented Yeovil Area at the Somerset Schools Athletics County Championships held at Yeovil Arena.
The day started off brilliantly with both Hector McA and Rian U competing in their first competition in their new events Hammer and Pole Vault. With each throw Hector threw a new personal best, and likewise, Rian kept vaulting higher and higher. Hector, to all our delight, won the Senior Boys Competition, and therefore, was crowned County Champion, with a throw of 32.60 and Rian came 3rd with a new personal best of 2.70 but will now be ready for the South West Combined Events Championships where he will compete for Somerset alongside 2 current Great Britain athletes.

Well done to everyone who competed and good luck to the Inter Girls' Team who compete in the Regional A Final of the English Schools Track and Field Cup at Millfield. Qualifying for this competition means they are in the top 8 schools in the South of England, so will compete against teams from Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Gloucestershire, Cornwall, Devon and Dorset.
Congratulations to Hector McA, Tom J, Harriet T and Anya E who have been selected to represent Somerset at the South West Championships on Saturday at Exeter.
Despite changeable weather conditions, the 1st VI Boys’ Tennis won convincingly 7-2 at home against King’s College Taunton. The boys demonstrated excellent pair work, communicating effectively and moving well around the court. Particular mention to Charlie and Seb who won all three of their matches including a victory against the strong Taunton 1st pair
On Saturday the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Senior Girls played Well’s Cathedral at home. All three teams played exceptionally well, with the 1st VI winning 8-1, the 2nd VI winning 7-2 and the 3rd VI winning 9-0. The girls were all excellent at the net dominating with their volleying and also showing a fantastic fighting spirit, winning four sets 6-5. A special mention to Kiara and Astrid in the 1st VI who swept aside the opposition only dropping four games across three sets.
The 1XI won the toss and batted first. No one batted with any resilience and we were 72 all out. Ross T and Pete J bowled with aggression but Canford got them with 9 wickets in hand.
Canford made 215 from their 25. Sam H was the pick of the bowlers, and also made a fantastic catch whilst Ollie S made a great run out.
Some strong batting performances came from Sam H and Sam S, but no one else made any runs to leave us 80 runs short. Player of the Match was Sam S.
Junior A lost to Canford. Archie F batted well and Player of the Match was Freddie J who took 4 wickets.
Canford got 174-8 from their 25 overs. Archie M-S got 3 wickets, Oscar P got 22 and we were very sharp in the field to make 3 fantastic team run outs. We got 83 all out due to some poor shot choices, Aled D made 20 and Will B made 17.
Canford batted first and got 114-9 off of their 25. Strong bowling from Bertie H and Felix S both taking 3 wickets each. A top order collapse saw King's 4 wickets down, but James N and Max H steadied the ship before Harvey W and Ben S made a 60+ partnership and saw the team home.
