On Thursday, the swimmers headed to Taunton School. Sadly, the match was lost 77 to 33 points, but every swimmer competed very well against some formidable opposition. Two hard fought second place performances were won by Millie T-C in the 100m Individual Medley and Sophie T in the 50m Freestyle. Swimmers of this Match – Millie T-C and Murray H.
Competing against Millfield
On Saturday, the swim team competed superbly against a very strong Millfield side. Overall, the match was a draw with both teams attaining 27 points. The gala included some fantastic wins from Amelia D in the 50m Fly, Sophie T in the 50m Backstroke, Tom R in the 50m Breaststroke, Toby D in the 50m Freestyle and the Girls 4 x 50m Freestyle team consisting of Amelia D, Sophie T, Katie R and Millie T-C. The Millfield team were winning overall on points before the final event - the mixed Cannon relay. Excitingly, the determined King’s team made up of Millie T-C, Charlie B, Isabel B, Tom R, Sophie T, Llewelyn H, Amelia D, Harry F, Katie R and Toby D pipped Millfield to the victory. Swimmers of this Match - Sophie T and Tom R.
Well done to all the swimmers who competed this week.

On Saturday afternoon, the senior boys travelled to Queen’s College in Taunton. The 1st VI, having gone into the final round of matches tied at 3-3, prevailed 6-3 thanks to some excellent net play and intercepting volleys. The 2nd VI won in convincing fashion 7-2, thanks in no small part to their excellent consistency from the baseline. A special mention to Kit H and Lluis M, in the 1st VI, who won all three of their matches as well as Come T and Oskar L, in the 2nd VI, whose energy on court was to be admired.

Bryanston Home
The sun was shining as we began the fixture against Bryanston and the three Junior Girls’ squads were mentally prepared for a tough fight. There was some excellent tennis played in all three matches, with the final scores not really reflecting the standard of play. The A’s, in particular, kept pressure on their opponents through excellent play at the net, having taken on board coaching on volleying. Unfortunately, the A fixture was disrupted when one player sustained an awful injury to her knee, being rushed off to hospital. The girls who remained, never quite got back in their stride!
Final Scores were as follows:
Junior A: 2 – 5 loss
Junior B: 1 – 8 loss
Junior C: 1 – 8 loss

On Saturday the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Senior Girls’ teams played away at Bryanston for the first sunny match of the season. Despite all teams suffering their first losses, the scores were tight and the girls learnt a lot about the importance of court positioning and speed. After three convincing victories in previous weeks, the girls enjoyed the challenge and look forward to this week’s matches.

On Tuesday, our 1st XI played against the MCC. Ross T was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets and a fantastic one handed catch. Ross also was top scorer with 32. Sam H made a sublime 25 before our innings ended 80 runs short of the MCC’s total. Man of the Match was Ross T, however a special mention goes to 3rd Form pupil Jay T for being called up to represent the 1st XI at short notice, and showing he can hold his own at 1st XI level.
On Thursday, the 1st XI played away at Sherborne in a T20. We made 139 from our 20 overs with Toby R, eventual Man of the Match, scoring 69 not out. We then showed our prowess once again in the field, restricting them to 121 from their 20 overs. The stand out bowling came from Leo H and Peter J who got 2 wickets each. Special mention goes to Mike H who took 3 sharp stumpings and 2 catches.
On Saturday, we played Wells in a 30 over match. We weren’t quite as good as we could have been with the ball which allowed Wells to 139 all out. Peter J bowled superbly for his 5 wickets. Our opening stand put on 85 with Joe G finishing on 34, and Toby R playing an extremely mature innings to bring us home with another 69 not out. Man of the Match was Peter J.
On Thursday, the 2nd XI set a total of 189. Sam S produced a classy half century, while Liam W’s fireworks with 3 6’s in 3 balls and also reached 50. Unfortunately, the 2nd XI couldn’t match the batting performance in the field and despite taking several wickets, Sherborne got themselves into a position where they required 2 off the last ball to win and unfortunately they got this. The Man of the Match went to Sam S for his discipline and skill with the bat.
On Saturday, the 2nd XI produced an outstanding bowling and fielding display to restrict Wells to 126. Rupert L, Theo M and Liam W delivered some superb pace bowling whilst Sam H and Luca H held up an end. Special mention must go to Liam W for an outstanding runout. The King’s batsmen had set the perfect foundations and were cruising to victory with a score of 60-2. However, some poor shot selection quickly meant that the pressure was back on King’s. Sam H steadied the ship with some good running before falling at a vital point. However, Oliver S, Jacob S and Luca H rallied around at the end of the innings to make sure that King’s won by 1 wicket! A fantastic bowling and fielding display that set up the hard fought victory.
On Monday, King’s played Bristol District. Archie F and Jay T batted fantastically making 64 and 74 respectively, leading King’s to a strong total of 204. However, Bristol District, with a couple of 5th Formers in the team, managed to chase the runs with 7 wickets in hand. Jay T was Man of the Match.
On Thursday, King’s won against Sherborne, King’s scored 135 with Harry L making 20, Archie F making 69, meaning he has scored back to back half centuries. Despite some good batting performances, Oscar C stole the show with the ball, finishing with figures of 6 wickets for 24 runs, averaging a wicket every 4 balls.
On Saturday, King’s played at home vs Wells. King’s found it difficult to match the intensity of their last performance versus Sherborne and whilst few runs were scored, by not targeting the stumps, few wickets fell either. The pick of the bowlers were Archie F who took two wickets and Oscar C who took three. Wells managed just 83 runs in the 23 overs before they were bowled out.
This was unlikely to ever be enough, and so it proved to be, with King’s losing only one wicket in the chase. Harry L top scored with 49 not out and was deemed to be Player of the Match.
Against a weak Wells side, King’s finished on 68 all out with poor shot selection playing a significant part. With only 24 runs coming off the bat the Junior B’s had lost 20 wickets over the past 72 hours for less than 50 runs scored with a wicket falling for every two runs amassed. This must improve if the team wants to compete in more games this summer.
With the ball, King’s improved a great deal, and after excellent spells from Oscar P, Sam L, Will B, Angus E and Jack B. Wells collapsed to 34 all out. Spectators arriving to see a ‘run fest’ packed up deck chairs, picnics and left the ground disappointed, however, with 20 wickets falling in a little under two hours the Junior B’s yet again lived up to their billing as the school’s most entertaining cricket side. In a week of comebacks, the Junior B’s proved they could mix it with likes Liverpool and Spurs and never gave up! Man of the Match was Jack B.
Tom H and Freddie C started the innings against Wells very well, Tom H scoring 45 before being bowled out. A solid unbeaten knock from George J was accompanied by a quickfire 31 from Ed W, leading King’s to finish on 142-3. Patient bowling from Tyler H and Bold D reaped rewards, however, the opposition batsman accelerated into the 70s with no sign of stopping. Half way through, the game looked good as lost. However, an excellent two overs from Tom H and more high quality bowling particularly from Freddie C saw King’s limit Well’s to 121-2 from the 20 overs and win the match. Man of the Match was Tom H.
The Girls’ U15A had their first ever game of cricket on Tuesday against a Queen’s College side. We played softball, pairs cricket for 16 overs a-side and it was a fantastic occasion, with lots of people from both sides being introduced to cricket for the first time. Special mentions go to Rachel T for being able to smash the ball further than her brother, Astrid M for scoring the most runs from King’s, Maya W for her bowling efforts and Anya E for leading by example.
All three athletics teams for impressive performances at Dauntsey’s.
