Friends of King's Events

On Friday 12th October, parents and staff enjoyed themselves at the annual Friends of King’s Quiz Night and Ploughman’s Supper in the Memorial Hall.

Did you know that Trump’s middle name is John? Or that a group of giraffes is called a tower? Questions ranged from sporting trivia, to general knowledge, to song titles and much more. The final round of ‘Do you recognise the advertisement or theme tune?’ had the added twist of plus and negative points. Guests were well and truly kept on their toes by Quizmaster supreme George Beverly and much enjoyment was had by all.

There were several teams neck and neck throughout most of the evening, but ultimately ‘Nine Out of Ten Cats’, a team made up of military parents, shone through. The evening’s food was served and overseen by the BTEC Hospitality pupils, who showed professionalism throughout the evening. It was hard to believe that some were only six weeks into the course. The final excitement of the evening was the pudding competition. Parents and pupils alike, were encouraged to enter; there were two winners - Mrs McDade (parent) with a delicious rhubarb and ginger cheesecake and Poppy (pupil) with a glorious white chocolate mirror glazed cheesecake. Both received much coveted King’s Bruton cooking aprons and all entrants received a wooden spooned engraved with the King’s Bruton crest.

A huge thank you to Quizmaster extraordinaire, George Beverly; to The Chairman of the Friends, Mike Sykes, for helping with the marking and scoring, to the parents and pupils, who so generously provided puddings for the competition and to Rose Vigers-Belgeonne and the BTEC Hospitality pupils for their competence and enthusiasm throughout the entire evening. Finally, a massive thank you to the parents and staff for supporting this event. Some photos from the evening can be seen in the tweet below.
