On Saturday evening, the Memorial Hall was transformed for our annual ‘Swing into Spring’ event. The evening showcased a wide array of King’s Bruton musical talent, with the Groove Band kicking off proceedings with some arrangements of popular Jazz, Soul and Funk numbers. This was followed by some of our singers performing a ‘lounge jazz’ set, including some classic downtempo swing and soul songs, during dinner. When the meal had concluded, it was time for the Big Band to perform their first set, composed of a variety of traditional and modern swing numbers from ‘Strike Up the Band’ to ‘Alright, OK, You Win’. The second set got off to a raucous start with an arrangement of the Guns ‘n’ Roses classic ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, which filled the dancefloor and set the tone for the rest of the second set which was packed with favourites from ‘Footloose’ to ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’. The guests were thrilled, and enjoyed every moment of the evening. The Big Band performed incredibly well, and I applaud their hard work, resilience, and professionalism in preparing for what is always an enjoyable yet challenging event.

Last Saturday at ‘Swing into Spring’ , we were transported to Ronnie Scott’s in Somerset for the night, as the King’s Big Band, solo vocalists and The Groove Ensemble put on a fabulous show! Guests were treated to music through the jazz ages to modern day, with the dance floor packed and shouts of encore as the evening came to an end. The BTEC Hospitality pupils provided the service and had just the right balance of being attentive and letting the evening flow. Thank you to all the pupils and staff involved for their passion and commitment to both music and events at King’s - a fun evening was had by all!
