A fantastic time was had by all at Swing into Spring...

Within a week, we have had 3 major events in The Memorial Hall with the Sixth Form Formal Dinner, the Community Concert and finally, last Saturday, an excellent Swing into Spring for 120 parents. The King's Big Band and lead vocalists were outstanding, and my thanks must go to all the performers, the BTEC Hospitality pupils, Penny Bird (Events Manager) for her organisation, and finally, to Oliver Higgs (Head of Music Technology) for masterminding all the music for us. It was poignant that we went into lockdown 2 years ago straight after the 2020 Swing into Spring, and now we, hopefully, are emerging from the pandemic with Swing into Spring in 2022.

On Saturday evening, the King’s Big Band headlined a fantastic evening of fun, food, and dancing - Swing into Spring. The evening started with the newly formed ‘Groove Ensemble’ who provided some excellent pre-dinner entertainment, and performed to a very high standard. They were followed by two sets from the King's Big Band, combining some of the best traditional swing numbers with more up-tempo pop and rock classics, and accompanied by our soloists, Tom, Lily, Angus and Amelia, for the guests to dance the night away! Swing into Spring showcased the hard work of a huge number of pupils and staff, and was a hugely enjoyable and successful evening; my thanks to everyone involved.

Swing into Spring saw the first big event for parents for two years with the King’s BTEC Hospitality pupils serving a delicious menu whilst listening to the incredible talents of the Music Department. This forms part of their BTEC coursework as they must demonstrate food and drink service to complete the course. The evening started with pre-dinner drinks, whilst guests were able to socialise for the first time in a long while. Our Catering Team, Chartwells, briefed the pupils, who then served an informal dinner and wines selected by The Somerset Wine Company. It was lovely to see the School community together again enjoying good food and incredible music.
