High Expectations Surpassed Beyond All Measure At Swing Into Spring

Saturday night’s Swing into Spring dinner dance was a great success.

The music and food were, quite simply, spectacular. Amidst a sea of yellow and white spring flowers adorning the candlelit tables and with a wonderful backdrop of sparkling lights, the King’s musicians treated the assembled guests to four hours of superb music. During pre-dinner drinks, cocktail pianists Tom and Felix entertained the guests on arrival, as the Prefect and Sixth Form helpers greeted the guests. Throughout the delicious three course meal, a number of excellent ensembles played, before the Big Band took to the stage and the guests rose to their feet for some energetic dancing. The soloists of Abs, Ella, Felix, Emma, Hector and Katie were excellent, displaying maturity beyond their years – to think that two of them were 5th Form pupils makes the achievement of singing solos at this event all the more impressive.

The success of this event was down to a number of people, but the sound and lighting wizardry of Mr Stainton, the culinary delights and expert service of Chartwells and the endless hours of practise and the professionalism of the musicians under the watchful eye of Mr Gorodi feature high on the list of thanks. One letter from a parent simply said “I had not been to this event before, and I came with high expectations, but these were simply surpassed beyond all measure.” An album of photos from the evening can be seen below.

The Big Band will be playing again at next term’s Day of Celebration Supper on 16th June - so put the date in your diary and join us for what will no doubt be another excellent evening.
