Sport Celebration

Congratulations to Ellen Barber on winning the English Schools' title for Heptathlon.

Ellen Barber represented King’s Bruton and Somerset in the Senior Girls' Heptathlon in the English Schools Combined Events Championship held at Exeter Arena this weekend. Ellen qualified with a win at the South West Championship in June.

It was not an easy competition for Ellen as she didn’t perform to her best in the Hurdles or in her strongest events, the High Jump and Long Jump, but thanks to PBs in the Javelin and the 200m, Ellen knew that going into the 800m she just had to run hard to secure her first English Schools' title - which she duly did!

King’s Director of Sport, Pip Atkinson-Kennedy said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Ellen and indeed for King’s Bruton who have produced their second English Schools' champion in four years”. (Elliott Rutter won the Senior Boys 400m in 2012). Ellen is coached by Peter Grosjean, Alan Lerwell and Ken Holmes.
