3rd Form Latin pupils enjoyed a trip to Bath...
Salve! Nine 3rd Form Latinists enjoyed the annual trip to the Roman Baths in the beautiful city of Bath, which the Romans called 'Aquae Sulis', 'The Waters of (the goddess) Sulis'. We explored the Roman Baths site in detail in the morning, completing tasks as we went around. Particular highlights, as ever, were the chance to see the curse tablets, speak to a 'Roman' and ask them questions, and taste the mineral water at the end. Pupils enjoyed some free time in Bath over lunch, soaking up the Christmassy atmosphere and exploring the local shops. In the afternoon, we were treated to a lesson in the Clore Education Centre given by the staff at the Roman Baths. Pupils translated many of the Latin inscriptions found on tombstones in Bath and enjoyed handling artefacts, both originals and replicas, associated with different rooms in the Baths. It was a lovely and informative day at one of the best Roman sites in Britain, which hopefully, made the Roman history of the local area feel a little more 'real' to the pupils. Vale!
