3rd Form pupils took part in our Public Speaking Competition...

On Monday, we held our first ever Public Speaking Competition. In the morning, all of the 3rd Form pupils met in the Theatre to have a briefing and then they were divided into 6 separate groups and started to research particular topics. These included PSHEE topics of smoking, cloning, single sex schools, social media and the death penalty. The English and History Department staff gave workshops on what makes a good and bad speech, and then it was time for the pupils to write their own speeches. They had to argue for one side of a motion and perform their speeches in front of a panel of judges. The winner of each of the 6 groups went through to the grand final after lunch. Martha, Coco, Sarah, Charles, Lucy and Emily were the 6 winners and performed their speeches in front of the Headmaster. He awarded Sarah with 1st Prize, whilst Coco and Emily were the Runners-Up. The Headmaster said how impressed he was with the standard, and how public speaking is such a vital skill for all pupils.
