On Wednesday 5th February, 28 GCSE Art pupils travelled to Bristol in search for inspiration for their exam topic. The groups were split into two. Miss Ling headed up to the RWA at the top of Queen's Road to look at the sublime Paper Works exhibition where the 200 shortlisted artists had their work on display. The range and creativity of the work was breathtaking and provided some exciting inspiration for the pupils.
Whilst this was happening, Mr Harkness was leading the group around the old docks and taking in some of the local Bristol history. We then went to the M-Shed Museum where there were some brilliant displays highlighting Bristol’s past and links to the slave trade, the city’s evolution and also the recent protests.
Both groups met up in the Bristol City Gallery and Museum to take in the permanent collection, which ranged from the art of Ancient Egypt to Victorian painting. There was a vast amount to see and link to their exam themes.
All in all it was a wonderful day that has provided a super starting point for the pupils.
