An exciting orienteering challenge on Ham Hill for Royal Navy CCF cadets...
The Royal Navy Section of King’s Bruton CCF embarked on an icy mission to Ham Hill just as the frosts descended. The Cadets needed to combine all the skills they had been developing during the term to race each other to find as many checkpoints across Ham Hill as possible. Armed with a map, compass and VHF radio, cadet groups had to communicate via radio with their Control Officer who delivered navigation bearings that cadets needed to follow using their compass and map. The race was heated with groups quickly spreading the breadth of the site. Our winning group managed an impressive 6 checkpoints, having covered approximately 3km on foot in cold windy conditions. We were very proud of the cadets and NCOs for working together in these conditions and remaining positive. Of course the doughnuts at the end helped.
