An action packed week for Cricket at King's Bruton...

An action packed week for Cricket at King's started with the U15 Girls in National T20 Cup action against Millfield School. Captain Ella won the toss and elected to bat first. King's developed some really good partnerships and managed to bat out all 20 overs against a strong Millfield attack to finish on 80 all out. A strong start with the ball was unfortunately not enough to break the Millfield partnership and they reached King's total in the 12th over. We now wait to see who we face in the National Plate.

On Saturday, the Girls' 1st XI were in action against Sherborne Girls. A really exciting first game of the season for the Girls' 1st XI which went all the way to the wire. King's batted first with Georgia scoring a fine 50. King's took wickets at regular intervals, however, Sherborne just got over the line with 12 balls to spare.

The Boys would face Exeter School in their block this weekend.

The 1st XI, captained by Ronnie in the absence of Archie, won the toss and elected to bowl first. Some excellent opening bowling from Jay and Oscar and a superb run out by Ben really started to build pressure on the Exeter batters. All bowlers contributed to a great first half as Exeter fell to 133 all out of 29 overs. Oscar, the pick of the bowlers with 7 overs, 3 wickets for just 14 runs. King's looked to start positively with the bat and a good partnership between Jay and Ben put King's in control. Ronnie scored a fine 40 off very few balls and Jay fell soon after for 43. After a small collapse losing 4 wickets for 8 runs, King's got themselves over the line to continue their winning run this season.

The 2nd XI lost out to a very strong Exeter side. King's posted 84 with Exeter chasing the total for the fall of just two wickets.

The U15As had a much closer encounter. Bowling first, some excellent bowling in the middle overs from Samuel, Jamie and Lenny restricted Exeter to 185 off their allocated overs. King's unfortunately ran out of overs and finished on 152-4. A man of the match knock by Samuel of 33 off just 16 balls.

The U15Bs narrowly lost out to an organised Exeter side, Sihan and Felix awarded Man of the Match by Mr Hawley.

King's U14As won by 20 runs. Batting first and losing two quick wickets, Oliver (27) and Nathan (41) put on a 72 run partnership. Charles  contributed a very useful 28 not out. King's finished on 153 for 5. Some good early bowling by Hugo and Nathan put Exeter on the back foot and they never really got up with the run rate losing key wickets along the way. They ended on 133 for 6 from their 25 overs with King’s running out 20 run winners. Another strong performance from the U14s.

A mixed U14 Boys and Girls side travelled away to Exeter and performed admirably against very strong and experienced opposition. Exeter bowled first and a string of brave partnerships helped us to 55 all out. Exeter won by 10 wickets. A great team fielding performance and Aurelia, Ollie and Sasha were the pick of the bowlers.

The 1st XI look forward to another busy week of fixtures, first up against the MCC in our annual showcase match.
