The Chapel Choir sang Choral Evensong at Tewkesbury Abbey...
On Wednesday 16th November, the Chapel Choir travelled to Tewkesbury Abbey to sing a service of Choral Evensong. The Chapel Choir last performed at Tewkesbury Abbey in 2017, and it was good to make a return visit to this amazing building. The Chapel Choir were warmly welcomed by the Abbey staff. The music for the service included Responses by Joanna Forbes L’Estrange, Psalm 42 set to a chant by S. Wesley. The canticles were sung to Charles Wood’s setting in E flat (No. 2). The anthem was Sir Ernest Bullock’s setting of Give us the wings of faith.
Tewkesbury Abbey has one of the finest acoustics in the country and the Chapel Choir really enjoyed making the building ring and hearing the organ accompaniment. My congratulations go to all those involved on a hugely successful visit. We were fortunate enough to have a few parents and other supporters in the congregation who were extremely complimentary about the singing of the Chapel Choir.
The next visit for the Chapel Choir will be to Christchurch Priory in Dorset in the Easter Term.
