On Saturday evening the Groove Ensemble played at Perrott Hill’s annual Bonfire and Fireworks event...

The Groove Ensemble firstly joined with musicians from Perrott Hill to give joint performances of Ek Se and Watermelon Man. The Groove Ensemble then played a solo set following the lighting of the bonfire. There was an enthusiastic and appreciative audience and all the musicians played brilliantly, including several solos. Well done to all the musicians on a successful first public performance outside of King’s this academic year.

A lovely note from Julian Shortman - Director of Music at Perrott Hill

Thank you so much for your help and support with bringing the Groove Ensemble to our Bonfire Night on Saturday - your pupils made a great impression on the parents here. I've received lots of positive comments and feedback about their inclusion in the evening’s entertainments.

Our Wind Band & Percussion Ensemble loved playing along with the Groove Ensemble. The three saxophonists joined Wind Band in September, so Saturday evening was their first performance. I was thrilled that they took their cue from your musicians and played out so confidently. I also loved seeing their eyes widen when they heard the King's pupils improvising - such a good role model for them to witness and be inspired by.

Thank you so much for giving up your time to support us. Please pass on my thanks to all your players for their generosity in supporting our music making too. One of our parents took some photos and two videos of the joint performances - I’ve attached a photo and can send over a link for you to download the videos if you’d like me to.

I’m sure it goes without saying that, if it appeals, we would love the Groove Ensemble to come and play with us again next year!

Many thanks, Julian.
