An Exciting Day of Politics for EAL Pupils on Their Trip to the Houses of Parliament

EAL Educational Trips

On Tuesday 8th October the international pupils went to London by coach for a bespoke tour of the Houses of Parliament.

The ever changing developments of the political scene left us with an uncertain itinerary and the first part of our trip, which was to include a walk from Covent Garden across various important sites to Westminster, was partially impeded by the demonstrations taking place, so we were obliged to change our itinerary slightly.

The pupils were able to witness the workings of democracy with 5 different demonstrations going on outside Parliament and some very interesting meetings and talks taking place inside. We were shown around the Lobby, Westminster Hall and both Chambers, and saw a motion to amend the Plant Health (EU Exit) Regulations 2019. The tour was followed by an interactive workshop on voting and representation during which many of our pupils excelled in the role of parliamentary candidates promoting their manifestos.

It was a long day, but an enriching one for all.
