Thursday 9^th May saw the annual Joint Hazlegrove and King’s Choral Concert take place in the Theatre at Hazlegrove. 

King's Bruton

It was a tremendous evening of singing, with superb performances from the King’s School Choir, Chapel Choir and Chamber Choir. It was also an opportunity for King’s and Hazlegrove to join forces to perform a joint item. The King’s School Choir joined the Hazlegrove Voices to perform 'Dig Deep' composed by Pete Churchill and originally written for the London Olympics in 2012. The choirs worked well together to bring this celebratory piece to life.

The Chapel Choir gave a superb performances of Howells 'Magnificat' from Collegium Regale and the 500^th commissioned work composed by Alexander L’Estrange 'King of Glory, King of Peace'. The Chamber Choir showed their versatility with a performance of Arnesan’s beautiful work 'Even When He Is Silent' alongside Andrew Wright’s setting of 'My Beloved Spake' with Aidan McF (5^th Form), singing the baritone solo and Kiara J (U6^th Form), the soprano solo. The School Choir performed two contrasting pieces: an arrangement of Coldplay’s hit 'Something Just Like This' with Hector McA (L6^th Form), providing the opening solo. The second piece was 'O Clap Your Hands' by John Rutter with challenging rhythms and changing time signatures that the School Choir took in their stride. Congratulations to all involved on a wonderful evening of choral music!

Hazlegrove

The theatre was absolutely packed with family, friends and pupils for our Joint Choral Concert hosted in the Hazlegrove theatre. A beautiful summer’s evening with the doors thrown open created a wonderful atmosphere and we were treated to a celebration of singing across the King’s Bruton Foundation.

The King’s Bruton choirs were very well versed in their choral pieces having performed very recently for Her Majesty The Queen during her visit to open The Queen Elizabeth Music School at King’s Bruton. Hazlegrove choirs were energetic, upbeat and gave really enthusiastic performances. We were lucky to have over one hundred children on stage on more than one occasion which filled the hall with gorgeous harmonies and vocal text!

This was my last of the Hazlegrove Joint Choral Concerts, and I couldn't have been prouder of our Hazlegrove children singing their hearts out! We had such a breadth of repertoire from Herbert Howells to Pete Churchill, Mendelssohn to Stevie Wonder. We were proud to host this event and I know that Hazlegrove will look forward to the next one!
