A wonderful Community Concert and Afternoon Tea...

The Community Concert and Tea was a huge success. We welcomed the elderly from Candlelight Care, Bruton Active Living, Hugh Sexey's Hospital, Highfield House and even a few of our own Old Brutonian community. Guests enjoyed a delicious Afternoon Tea baked and served by our BTEC Hospitality pupils and listened to a great selection of music, played by our excellent Military Band. My thanks to Mr Lambton and all the pupils who performed to such a high standard and Mrs McMunn and the BTEC Hospitality pupils who made this a memorable event for all in attendance. It was lovely to welcome members of the local community and Old Brutonians back for this event.

It was our pleasure to jointly host the annual Community Concert and Afternoon Tea with the music department again, our biggest yet! With around 120 guests welcomed into our Memorial Hall from the local community, it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces in the glorious spring sunshine after much rain in the last few months. Guests were treated to homemade scones, homemade cakes and sandwiches from the BTEC Hospitality pupils whilst listening to the King's Military Band.

BTEC Hospitality pupils were outstanding in the delivery of their customer service, which all forms part of their Level 3 Diploma. It takes a huge amount of organisation in the week leading up to the event, and it was great to see pupils motivated and thoroughly engaged with the community. Facing a challenging amount of people in a smallish space, they were undaunted and stepped up to use initiative and never faltered in their professionalism. I am super proud of their achievement and how they brought enjoyment to so many people. The music was outstanding as ever from our talented King's musicians!

Preparation for the Community Concert has been going on since we came back from Christmas holidays, and everyone in the Military Band has worked really hard. Unlike our performances in school concerts where we normally only play one or two pieces, the Community Concert requires us to perform a full programme of music. This puts pressure on everyone, but I was very happy that the whole band played very well. A big thank you also goes out to my Clarinet Group and Saxophone Group who performed very well. I have enjoyed the Community Concerts very much over the years, because it is so great to see how the local senior citizens enjoy our music. With retiring at the end of the summer term I will miss being involved with entertaining a lovely group of people.
