The Junior Vocal Concert was a treat, writes David Gorodi, Director of Music.

There were many excellent performances, some of which were given by musicians whom one might expect to deliver a first class performance, but I’d like to focus on some of the musicians who performed at a level I hadn’t previously heard.

Helena performed 'The Silver Swan' by Gibbons. She produced a lovely sound and her intonation in the passages which contained false relations was excellent. Isabella  performed Keen’s 'Homeward Bound'; she has a delightful voice, a really full rich sound. Thomas impressed me when he sung 'Some Enchanted Evening'. Tom is only in the 3^rd Form but produces a very rich lower register, without doubt he is going to have a magnificent bass voice - if this is how he sings in his first year at King’s what is he going to sound like in the 6^th Form? Elih has a beautiful tenor voice, he sung Munro’s 'My Lovely Celia'; it’s hard to believe what a wonderful sound Elih is already making. Elizabeth performed Handel’s 'Ombra Mai Fu'. She sung with great maturity, her performance was outstanding, certainly the best I’ve heard from her so far. The same could be said for Sophie, she accompanied herself whilst singing 'Salvation' by Aplin; often when pupils accompany themselves, things go wrong, they play the piano too loudly or the tempo goes astray, Sophie, however, was spot on, a really mature performance and another excellent voice to enjoy.
