The Percussion & Brass Concert Opened With A Brilliant Trumpet Fanfare From The Balcony

Music Concert

The concert started off with a Trumpet Fanfare from the balcony, it sounded brilliant - a great start which was followed by the CCF Drummers who performed a routine that they will be performing again later this term in Beating Retreat, accurate and impressive as ever.

As expected the Brass & Percussion Concert was pretty noisy although the acoustic curtains in the new music school really helped. I enjoyed all of the soloists, but perhaps I can highlight a few of my favourite performances. Thomas gave a confident and beautifully phrased performance of a 'Minuet' by Bach, there was some lovely legato articulation to enjoy. Samuel performed on the marimba and played with great assurance, bringing out the characterful and playful nature of the melody from 'You’ve Got a Friend in Me'. Molly played 'Saul Bossa', she always plays musically and is very aware of balance and ensemble. The Percussion Ensemble were excellent. To hear 15 or so drummers playing together is always exciting. The concert was brought to an end by a joint Brass and Percussion performance of 'Themes from Star Trek', it was a great way to finish the concert - my congratulations to all involved.
