Monday 30th April saw the annual Joint Hazlegrove and King’s Bruton Choral Concert take place in the Theatre at Hazlegrove.
It was a tremendous evening of singing with superb performances from the School Choir, Chapel Choir and Chamber Choir. It was also an opportunity for King’s and Hazlegrove to join forces to perform two joint items. The King’s Chamber Choir joined the Hazlegrove Year 5s to sing John Rutter’s All Things Bright & Beautiful and the full School Choir joined the Hazlegrove Voices to perform In Paradisum from Fauré’s Requiem. It is always challenging with little rehearsal time but the choirs worked well in tandem with a particularly impressive top line.
The Chapel Choir gave a superb performance of Mascagni’s O Rejoice that the Lord has Arisen taken from the opera Cavalleria Rusticana with Ella singing the soprano solo. The Chamber Choir showed their versatility with a performance of Stanford’s motet Justorum Animae with lovely attention to dynamics. They also performed a light-hearted acappella arrangement of Tea for Two. The School Choir performed two contrasting pieces: Bruckner’s Virga Jesse while two chorus movements from Handel’s Messiah provided a fitting end to an impressive evening of choral singing. Congratulations must also go to the Hazlegrove choirs that interspersed the evening with equally impressive performances. Well done to all involved!
