The 4th Form had an incredibly valuable visit to Roche Court, writes Wayne Spilsbury, Head of Art.
We made good time to the New Art Centre at the Roche Court Educational Trust near Salisbury. We arrived in snow flurries quickly followed by sunshine, a pattern which continued throughout the afternoon. It was a bitterly cold day and most of the work is sited in the landscape. Fortunately, the pupils had heeded advice and were wrapped up. Our guide expertly took us around key exhibits by internationally acclaimed artists. She expertly got the pupils to discuss the works and volunteer ideas and responses. In spite of cold fingers, A3 sheets were quickly filled with sketches and annotations. The 4th Form have just embarked upon the final sculptural elements of the Alien Seas Unit and the varied media and approaches experienced on this visit will undoubtedly have inspired fresh thinking and heightened enthusiasm for this project. An album of photos from the trip can be seen below.
