On Friday 15th September over 90 parents, staff and friends packed into the Memorial Hall for the annual Friends of King’s Quiz Night and Ploughman’s Supper.

From Toto to Tintin and darts to dingbats, the gathered throng, under the watchful and controlling eye of Quizmaster George Beverly, had their grey matter well and truly stretched. At half time several teams were neck and neck and energies were focussed on the pictures rounds on the tables. The BTEC Hospitality pupils served a delicious ploughman’s supper and the guests were encouraged to judge ‘the pudding they’d most like to eat’ before student Cully McDermid was announced the winner.

Did you know that the 1970s cartoon character Mr Benn lived in Festive Road? Or that Donald Trump is 71? That final question made all the difference to the scores and changed the results in the very last round, leaving Team La Gioiosa victorious.

A huge thank you to Quizmaster extraordinaire, George Beverly; to organiser and Events Manager, Gilly Bunday; to Jo McDermid for running the bar and to Mike Sykes for helping with the marking and scoring; to the parents and pupils, who so generously provided puddings for the competition and to Rose Vigers-Belgeonne, Jeanne Leeming and the BTEC Hospitality pupils for their professionalism and enthusiasm throughout the entire evening. Finally, a massive thank you to the parents, Friends of King’s and staff for supporting this event. An album of photos from the evening can be seen below.
