On Friday afternoon, King's was pleased to welcome the Rifles Regimental Support Team and The Rifles Band & Bugles to run some workshops with the Military Band and a carousel of practical activities in modern warfare equipment.
The Army cadets had the opportunity for hands on experience and instruction with an airsoft range, anti-tank system, optics, observation stand with sniper rifle, army quad bike and protective uniform (helmets and body armour). The Military Band had an informative presentation on life in the Military Band and had a full afternoon of music and marching with the Band culminating in a wonderful concert.
It was brilliant to play with the Band of the Rifles, the two bands together included nearly 50 musicians. We performed 4 pieces at a short concert at the end of the day which we rehearsed together during the afternoon. To play with excellent musicians was a wonderful experience which we all enjoyed immensely. As well as this the combined bands practiced marching including some complex manoeuvres such as “Bomb Burst” and “Royal Crown”. There was a short presentation on life as a bandsman, the opportunity to study for a degree and even a masters was not lost on our pupils. We had a fantastic time and our thanks go to Lieutenant Walters and the band of the Rifles.
King’s Bruton CCF were delighted to have had the opportunity to experience such a rewarding afternoon of activities and it was a superb way to start the term. A gallery of photos from the afternoon can be viewed below.
