On Friday 10 June, King’s Bruton 4th Form army recruits visited Bovington Camp, Dorset, for their termly CCF Field Day.

The group were met by Capt Gregory who gave the recruits a presentation on the role of the RAC in the British Army and showed some exciting go-pro action of his tank in training in various countries of the world. The group were then taken to the ATDU and having passed through security spent an enthralling two hours climbing onto and into a variety of armoured vehicles used by the RAC. Each piece of military hardware had a dedicated soldier explaining all facets of the machinery and the cadets learnt a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to sit in the driver seat and the commanders' seat and to appreciate the size and power of the armoured vehicles on display. Challenger 2, Jackal, Panther and Scimitar were just four of the vehicles on display. They were also shown the inner workings of the tanks and their firepower and the current weapons systems that the British Army uses.

In the afternoon, it was time for some hard work on the assault course. The cadets were put through their paces by the PTI for the base and they had a great deal of fun and got a little wet as they gave 100% on the various challenges on the assault course. Finally, some tank simulation fighting on one of the computer systems used by the RAC brought to a close a most enjoyable and tiring day.
