An impressive range of destinations for our 2023 leavers...

The August Results Day for A Level and BTEC pupils presents an additional tension each year. Not only do pupils receive the results which grade their last two years’ work, but, for most, it is also a time when they discover if they have achieved their place at their chosen university or, increasingly, for their degree apprenticeship. This year, with the changing national grade profile, the suspense was all the greater. How would universities respond? Would they show flexibility or hold hard and fast to their offer grades? Pupils, and the staff who were ready to help pupils if needed, waited expectantly.

I am delighted to say that for the vast majority of King’s pupils this year, there was no need for the nerves! With over 80% gaining their firm choices, bags could be packed and celebrations had. A few others gained their insurance choices, whilst there was also success in Clearing. The range of destinations was impressive and reflected a cohort that were willing to explore far and wide to find their “home” for the next few years.

In the UK, pupils were successful in gaining places across the individual nations, from Oxford and Edinburgh, to York, Cardiff and Bournemouth, not forgetting one pupil gaining a coveted Medicine seat at UCL. Further afield, pupils secured places at Stanford University and the University of the Ozarks in the USA and, a little closer to home, at the Hague to study International Law. It was an impressive portfolio of universities and we wish pupils every success in them. Equally successful were the apprenticeship applicants this year. Four pupils gained highly sought after places at firms ranging from Airbus to PWC, with excellent salaries and free education awaiting them! Unfortunately, one or two universities were able to show only a little or no flexibility, and one or two, despite their hard work, were unsuccessful on the day. They, however, will continue to be supported to achieve places at the right fit for them going forward.

Congratulations to all the 2023 Upper 6th Leavers, to whom we wish every success in the future!
