Art Educational Trips

Earlier this week, our 4th Form artists enjoyed two print making workshops, one within the Art Department and one nearby in Evercreech.

The workshop in the Art Studio was run by local artist Charlotte Marshall, who specialises in lino prints and mixed media illustrative work. The artists were introduced to Charlotte's lino prints, which consisted of basic one cut animal prints to reduction prints of local landscapes. They had the opportunity to watch Charlottes techniques and try them out for themselves. The Studio was busy with artists translating an image of a lily into a three coloured reduction print, giving them the opportunity to develop cutting, colour mixing and printing techniques. The artists got a real taste for this experience and the never ending possibilities it can offer. They can now look to develop this new skill over the following weeks and terms to enhance their exciting Portfolio work.

The Old Stores Studio is a relatively new enterprise run by local artists, and it is the first time that we have taken King’s pupils up to Evercreech. It is in a beautiful setting next to the church. Each group was first introduced to gel plates and how they can be used to create interesting mono-prints using organic and man made textures. The clarity of some of their outcomes was incredible and the pupils were encouraged to experiment with various colours, layers and shapes.

The second part of the session was an introduction to screen printing, using self portraits as their starting point. They learnt lots about the process and how it could be used to fit into their current work. All in all, they had a fantastic experience and came away feeling inspired. Many thanks to Nic and Maria for sharing their expertise and good humour throughout the day.
