4th Form Priory pupil, Jenna, successfully auditioned for a BYMT musical

Music Drama and Theatre

During lockdown, I auditioned for a theatre company called the British Youth Music Theatre. I wanted to a challenge myself and just have a bit of fun.

British Youth Music Theatre (BYMT) offers productions to young performers interested in a career in acting and music. They also offer summer camps and workshops throughout the holiday.

The BYMT audition was a Zoom meeting of 15 pupils and a panel of three experts judging our every move… very nerve racking! We were taught a section of a song and had to perform it ourselves, as well as learning a dance routine! We then acted in our own devised, dramatic scenes. It was such a good experience and I seriously recommend it to anyone who is interested to have a go.

I received an email about a month later explaining that I had been chosen to perform in a musical production called Ministry of Truth. It is based in Cardiff for 2 weeks during the summer, and I have no idea what to expect. I cannot wait as I know it will be a superb experience.

The British Youth Music Theatre (formerly Youth Music Theatre UK) is a national performing arts education charity that specialises in creating brand new music theatre, working alongside leading industry professionals to offer unique opportunities and high-quality training to young singers, actors, dancers and musicians as well as emerging artists and stage technicians. It is open to young people aged 11-21 years.

This is a significant achievement, and I am sure that Jenna will benefit hugely from the experience of working in such an environment in the summer. We look forward to hearing all about it!
