Food Science 4th Form

4th Form pupils had a special guest take part in their Food Nutrition and Prep lesson today. The Headmaster came along to cook sticky chicken wings and risotto.

The Headmaster joined in with our 4th Form lesson, finishing our series of chicken portioning. Having taken a whole chicken and portioned it, we made different dishes with each element. In a previous lesson we created a chicken stock with the carcass, today we turned the stock into a healthy risotto. At the same time we created sticky chicken wings and drumsticks using honey, oregano and sesame seeds. Mr Wilmshurst was partnered up with Pepa (one of our Future Chef finalists) who worked brilliantly together - including excellent washing up! Thank you Headmaster for joining our lesson.
Francesca Portch - Food Prep & Nutrition Teacher

I was very fortunate to be invited to join the 4th Form’s Food Nutrition and Prep lesson with Mrs Portch, after mentioning in the first Headmaster’s Assembly of the term that my New Year’s resolution was to cook more at home (‘About time too! cries Mrs Wilmshurst…!) Mrs Portch planned the lesson amazingly, as we prepared and cooked sticky chicken wings and chicken risotto. I was paired with Pepa, who was brilliant, and I think we worked well as a team. The end products were delicious, but what really struck me most were the excellent facilities in the department, the very clear instructions and explanations given by Mrs Portch, supported by Mrs Richards, and the focus and hard work of all the pupils. I really enjoyed the lesson and took away both lunch and supper for Mrs Wilmshurst. Win, win!
Ian Wilmshurst - Headmaster

I really enjoyed cooking with the Headmaster. It was a bit stressful because I didn’t wanted to do anythung wrong, but in the end I was really happy that he enjoyed cooking and I was pleased everything went so well and that the food was nice.
