Footsteps of Discovery are a company with renowned Survival and Bushcraft Instructors who led our cadets through a range of activities to 'survive in the wild on your own with just a few useful tools'. The activities were designed to instil a sense of self-reliance and resilience. Skills being used in current TV shows such as ‘Alone’ and ‘Survivor’.

Axe throwing and catapult firing tested the accuracy of the cadets and many showed an excellent technique and good eye - useful when hunting. Basic and Advanced Fire lighting allowed the cadets to make fire from batteries, wire wool, friction, flint and steel and how to safely handle cutting tools. Cadets were also taught how to show their location in the wild and signalling through a variety of techniques, including beacon building and how to make a makeshift stretcher to carry an injured friend.

The cadets impressed the instructors with their enthusiasm, skills but most importantly their ability to work together and help others who needed a helping hand to get the axe to stick and for the fire to light.
