4th Form pupils enjoyed a mussel and fish workshop this week...

Our 4th Form pupils had a focus ‘skills based’ workshop learning about mussels and sustainability. Simon Gray, a member of the Food Teacher’s Centre, joined the Food Science Department to talk to GCSE pupils and demonstrate a simple Thai recipe with mussels. The pupils enjoyed making the dish and then sampling their creations. Afterwards, they watched a demonstration on how to fillet a plaice and turn it into a gourmet fish goujon sandwich.

The ‘Mussel Power’ initiative is part of the Fish in Schools Hero programme, and is run by a selection of Fishmongers, offshore shellfish producers, Fowey Shellfish and M&J Seafood who are providing fresh fish and shellfish to schools across the UK.

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with some never having tried mussels or plaice before.
