On Tuesday, the Sixth Form Chemistry pupils travelled to Sherborne Girls School for an Advanced Science Society Lecture.

Professor Nicole Pamme talked about her route to becoming a Professor at the University of Hull in 2014. Her presentation was entitled ‘Lab-on-a-Chip’ and explained how the lab-on-a-chip device differed from the old technology microchip devices, how these lab-on-a-chip devices are designed and made, the advantages and disadvantages of using them, how they could be used to investigate flow regimes of fluids and concentration gradient experiments, for example, in the study of how liver cancer cells are affected by different anticancer drugs. This is very impressive, cutting edge technology that could have a vast impact on many, including as yet unknown, scientific experiments.

Our thanks to Sherborne Girls School for hosting this event and to Professor Pamme for her excellent, fascinating and thought-provoking lecture.
