CCF Outdoors and Adventure

King’s Bruton CCF journeyed to Snowdonia for their annual summer camp. A busy week of mountain climbing and outdoor adventure with Zip World were on the menu for the hardy cadets.

Day 1 - A lengthy journey up the M5 and M6 was worth it when the cadets saw the stunning Snowdonian mountains in glorious sunshine as they pulled into Bethesda Camp which was to be their home for the next five days and nights.

Day 2 - Cadets were introduced to the Mountain Range that could be seen from the camp. Carnedd Dyfed and Carnedd Llewellyn were tackled and a good seven hour mountain day was achieved.

Day 3 - A rest day for the legs and the group travelled to Zip World to experience Titan Zip Wire and Zip World Slate Caverns. It was difficult to know who enjoyed the day more, the officers or the cadets!! A fun, challenging day that was loved by all.

Day 4 - Tryfan (3,010ft) was tackled in the mist and the North Face challenged the scrambling skills of the cadets. A great achievement by all that stood next to ‘Adam & Eve’ in the mist – the only regret was the missed opportunity to have a stunning view as the mist was just too thick.

Day 5 - Snowdonia (3,560ft) the last mountain day and the hardy soles tackled Crib Goch and had a great experience on the iconic ridge. Again the view from the summit was disappointing as the mist refused to clear but all cadets were delighted to have tackled the biggest mountain in Wales. A pleasant journey down Watkins Path saw the last bit of energy sapped from the cadets legs.

An excellent camp that delivered on all fronts. The cadets discovered the beauty of Snowdonia and the challenge of climbing the various mountains in the region. They also saw how many varied outdoor adventure activities can be undertaken in the region and hopefully some will return in the future to take part in more activities that the region can offer.
