Impressive New Musicians’ Concert

Concert Music

I very much enjoyed the New Musicians' Concert, it was perhaps the largest we've held, the standard was very high, writes David Gorodi, Director of Music.

The woodwind section was well represented, Thomas on Bassoon has a lovely rich lower register whilst Samuel played some intricate phrases on the oboe with detailed attention to the articulation. The flute section was very well represented, Hugo opened the Concert, he has a lovely tone and excellent intonation, I very much enjoyed his performance of Donjon’s Offertoire. Another flautist who stood out for me was Julia, she brought out the jazzy inflections of Pogson’s Yesterday’s Promises beautifully. Will gave an excellent performance of Meditation from Thais by Massenet, demonstrating great dynamic control and mature musicianship. I very much enjoyed Jemima's performance of On My Own by Shonberg, she has a beautiful sound and excellent diction. Alexia has a great voice too, as does Marcia. My congratulations to all involved, particularly the 3rd Form who had just returned from their Battlefields Tour! My thanks as ever to Mr Marshfield and Miss Brearley. A video, some audio recordings and an album of photos from the concert can be seen below.
