A Night at the Opera proved to be an excellent concert, the acoustics in the John Davie room were superb; all the vocalists came across very clearly - in short, it was a real treat!
I’d like to highlight a few performances which I particularly enjoyed. Aidan gave an excellent performance of Mozart’s O Isis und Osiris. Aidan has a rich warmth to his voice which is only going to get stronger, his lower range was fantastic, I can’t imagine what he is going to sound like when he reaches the 6th Form! Alice sang brilliantly; she chose a humorous song by Arthurs, I Want to Sing Opera. Alice really captured the style; her diction was outstanding. Amelia sang Mozart’s Voi Che Sapete, she displayed great maturity not just in the tone that she produced, but also in the musical shaping she gave to her phrases. Indeed, I was really surprised to hear a 3rd Form pupil sing at this level. Ella finished the evening with a beautiful performance of Dvorak’s Song to the Moon; the variety and quality of the sound Ella creates is stunning. This was perhaps Ella's most impressive performance so far; real maturity was needed to bring this song off and Ella was not found wanting. My congratulations to all the pupils who took part to make an excellent concert; an album of photos can be viewed below.
