On Sunday 12^th November several pupils and staff in the School Choir travelled to London to sing Handel’s Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall.

There were around 3,500 voices performing - collectively known as ‘The Really Big Chorus’, combined with a professional orchestra and soloists. It was a particularly exciting performance as there is no rehearsal beforehand and the adrenaline was certainly flowing to get through several of the fugal sections!

The atmosphere in the hall was very exciting and there were many memorable moments including the first alto entry in the chorus ‘And the glory of the Lord’ - it was unusual to have an alto section that appeared to outnumber the sopranos! The iconic chorus ‘Hallelujah’ was particularly exhilarating with a near capacity audience traditionally standing during the singing of this. The final ‘Amen’ brought to a close a most memorable evening, enjoyed by all. Special mention must be made to the conductor, Brian Kay (Freddie Goggs Grandfather) for his superb skill in keeping the ensemble together without rehearsal!
