The 5th Form Concert proved to be a very entertaining evening, writes David Gorodi, Director of Music.
There were some excellent performances, not least Sam Innes who performed Bach’s Prelude in C Minor very well indeed; accurate articulation and some very nicely shaped phrases. Harriet Papenfus gave probably her best performance so far, her upper register was particularly good. Callum McFarlane on the tuba was outstanding; he has really taken to this instrument, his tone and articulation were spot on. I was really pleased and to be honest slightly surprised by the standard of Ann Gee’s voice, this was her first performance, Ann has a great voice, very expressive and a lovely tone. It was also Elodie Matthews first performance, another brilliant performance but it was her lower register which was rich and full that particularly impressed. Emma Walker gave her best performance so far, capturing the lyrical quality of the 2nd Movement from Haydn’s trumpet concerto really well; Emma has developed a lovely tone throughout her range and also shaped the phrases very maturely. My congratulations and thanks to all involved. A photo gallery and video of the evening can be seen below.
