Last Friday evening the annual Joint King’s and Hazlegrove Choral Concert took place in the Theatre at Hazlegrove. There were fantastic performances from the choirs of both schools. A few highlights from King’s choirs include the chapel choir singing Mendelssohn’s ‘I waited for the Lord’ with a soprano solo duet performed by Ella Corlett and Sophie Finch. The school choir gave moving performances of Bruckner’s motet ‘Os justi’ and Rachmaninoff’s ‘Bogoroditse Devo’ in which the basses sustained low Fs towards the end of the piece were particularly effective. The chamber choir provided three contrasting works ranging from ‘Oculi omnium’ by Hewitt-Jones to a light-hearted arrangement of ‘The way you look tonight’. The concert concluded with a performance of ‘Rhythm of Life’ from Sweet Charity, performed by the King’s and Hazlegrove massed forces of well over one hundred voices. A fantastic time was had by all and it is great to have such a strong tradition of choral singing at both schools.
