A fabulous community concert for charity...
On Sunday afternoon, around 100 singers assembled in the Memorial Hall at King’s to perform John Rutter’s exciting arrangement of spirituals entitled ‘Feel the Spirit’. We were hugely fortunate to be able to welcome Louise Innes as the mezzo-soprano soloist. The combined choir consisted of the School Choir of King’s Bruton, Bruton Choral Society, Pupils from Bruton Primary School and The Fitzjames Singers (consisting of King’s Bruton Parents) accompanied by The Fitzjames Players.
The soloist, chamber orchestra and amassed choirs quickly adjusted to working together and the ensemble was hugely exciting. It was wonderful to see the choir enjoying the sounds and colours of the orchestra, helping to bring the music to life. The choir made a terrific sound which carried over the top of the orchestra well. Louise gave a wonderful performance that captivated both the audience and choir.
The pupils from Bruton Primary School particularly impressed with their attentiveness throughout the rehearsal and performance.
The performance at 5pm was very well supported and £809.23 was raised for King's charity for the term 'Horatio's Garden'. My thanks go to Bruton Choral Society and their conductor Barbara Jenkinson, the Pupils from Bruton Primary School, and their leader Amy Dickinson along with the Children’s Choir of St Mary’s Church and their Director of Music, Harry Mills.
Well done and congratulations to everybody involved for helping to make the Choral Concert such a great success.
