The hardest training challenge so far for the Ten Tors teams...
It was another demanding weekend for the Ten Tors volunteers. After a 0530hrs reveille on Saturday morning, the 2 teams were fed, watered, and prepared to start the days walk at 0700hrs. The route was 30kms plus to simulate Day 1 of the Ten Tors Challenge. This was followed by a wild camp (within the permitted wild camping areas of Dartmoor). The routes and weather were testing, both physically and mentally, and the teams had to dig deep and ask some questions of themselves to find the determination to keep going. High moor, bogs and river crossings, combined with strong winds, mist and squally showers added to the mix, all carrying two days worth of food, water, tents and cooking equipment in packs that were approximately 20kg. It was probably the hardest challenge they have attempted in their lives to date, but having completed this weekend, there is very little that the Challenge can throw at them that they have not already encountered. Another fantastic effort showing the King’s spirit!
